"Damilano is one of the oldest family owned wineries in the Piedmont, dating back over 100 years to 1890, where Giuseppe Borgogno began to cultivate Nebbiolo from his own vineyards and turning them into wine. That wine soon became fameous through the region, the “jewel of the Langhe”, and in 1935 he turned over operations to his son in law, Giacomo Damilano, who greatly improved both wine quality and vineyard operations. And yet, in some ways, Damilano feels like a new find. Perhaps it is the current generation, Giacomo’s grandkids, Paolo, Mario and Guido, who took over operations in the late 1990’s. Perhaps it is a renewed sense of Barolo’s place in the world, with many wines consistently ranked in the top wines of the world. Whatever the reason, this Barolo is a stunning value! While many similar wines are selling for $70-$90, this gem goes for half of that! 91 James Suckling: “Very pretty 2014 with orange-peel, leather, spice and plum character. Medium body, firm tannins and a juicy finish. Drink or hold.” 90 Wine Spectator: “Walks the line between dusty cherry fruit and leather and tobacco flavors, buoyed by vibrant acidity and light tannins that leave a dusting of cocoa and spice on the finish. Elegant, yet intense. Best from 2023 through 2042” 90 Wine Advocate: “The 2014 Barolo Lecinquevigne is a nice, accessible wine for Barolo newbies. It has a lean appearance with flashes of black licorice and scorched earth, along with some interesting tar or asphalt notes."
